I know these jokes are on the verge of going stale, but this is by far the best use of Kanye West’s “Imma let you finish!” line EVER…

And the reason why everyone else on the planet comes to the US for medical school training and treatment (if they can afford it) is …..uhhh…..oh – because the UK and Canada have the best health care?

Your argument does not support your statement. Having good medical schools says nothing about the level of health care. When no-one can afford the best medical personnel available, then what use is it?

No one's saying that the US doesn't provide the best education for medical students or that your doctors lack skill when it comes the medical fields. We're saying that when it comes to providing affordable health care that is accessible to everyone- you guys suck.

Health care and Medical education are completely different.

Also USA doesn't put a salary cap on their doctors like Canada. So that might be one of the reasons why people move there to work.

I went to my doctor today in Canada, he ran a few blood tests, referred me to a specialist, answered all my questions, spent about 15 minutes with me without rushing to see the next patient, oh yeah, I haven't a clue what he charges cause I never see a bill. He didn't need to see my insurance either . Try that in the US

Wow… you have missed the point of the argument entirely. Anyone can get a basic checkup… the problem for Canadians is when they've got a major medical issue… what do you have to say about that?

Nearly 45,000 people die in the United States each year — one every 12 minutes — in large part because they lack health insurance and can not get good care, Harvard Medical School researchers found in an analysis released on Thursday Sept 17 2009.

Canada or England don't have the best single payer systems. That's why opponents usually cite them. Other European countries do better. Still, (I know this first hand) Canadians visiting this country go home if they get sick.
I also know first hand that you may have to wait months in this country if you need a procedure done. We have the best medical care if you are healthy and wealthy.

It's because we have the best doctors , but we have one of the worst health care plans. People really don't come here for healthcare anymore, because it costs an arm and a leg. We spend more money then anyone , but we are one of the most unhealthy nations in the world!!

Well have you ever heard of Japan? They have no waiting whatsoever. and there health care system is better then us!!! We can have universal health care and have no waiting whatsoever. It's just that the media and congress, mainly republicans keep trying to scare everyone away from it.. We can have the best in the world , but we won't .

  18. jaycee says:

    Emma,
If you actually do a little research you can find the following truth in multiple places.

According to the way statistics are calculated in Canada, Germany, and Austria, a premature baby weighing <500g is not considered a living child.

But in the U.S., such very low birth weight babies are considered live births. The mortality rate of such babies — considered “unsalvageable” outside of the U.S. and therefore never alive — is extraordinarily high; up to 869 per 1,000 in the first month of life alone. This skews U.S. infant mortality statistics.

Some of the countries reporting infant mortality rates lower than the U.S. classify babies as “stillborn” if they survive less than 24 hours whether or not such babies breathe, move, or have a beating heart at birth.

Forty percent of all infant deaths occur in the first 24 hours of life.

In the United States, all infants who show signs of life at birth (take a breath, move voluntarily, have a heartbeat) are considered alive.

We also have the LAZIEST, most incompetent people living in this country. I wouldn't mind a national healthcare plan and even paying into it a third of what I make to get the benefits of wonderful health care if I knew that everyone worked as hard as I do to support themselves instead of having babies to get welfare checks that they can't even take care of.

The US is the wealthiest country in the world and has the best health-care money can buy.
So the richer you are, the better off you are.
But the measure of a country, of a people, of a culture is not how well it treats richest, but how it treats the poorest.
The lack of socialized medicine and education in the US is just another example of how the US kicks the majority of its poor, sick and elderly to the curb.

Im just happy that Ive never had to worry about medical bills! Im overall satisfied with the health care system in canada.. It could be better of course, and im sure other countries have right on healthcare too, but the U.S. has got it bad when it comes to healthcare. Right now people are protesting Obama's healthcare, and these are mainly people who pay their monthly healthcare bill, and are not in need. They dont want to give up the luxury they have, to pay more taxes, to give poorer people healthcare. Its another classic example of middle class resisting change, because they are already sitting pretty.

  33. kbm says:

Just because you don't pay at the doctor's office doesn't mean you aren't paying for it! You're paying for it out of taxes, and paying for more than you need or use most years! If I only go to the doctor's once, and it "costs" $100, but they may take thousands out of your paychecks over the course of a year, it cost me say, $3,000 to visit for a minor illness, if that's the only visit I made. Now, no, you don't write the check for $100 or $3,000, but you pay it whether you use it or not. THAT is socialized healthcare. I'd rather pay for what I use than pay for what I don't use, plus paying for the guy down the street who has many healthcare problems bc he eats horribly and is overweight.

P.S. shtikittome – it's "Sieg Heil" as in "hail victory."

canadian healthcare don’t mean shit if it’s free because it’s still modern medicine and modern medicine is the number one cause of illness and disease…. canadians are just getting killed for free instead of paying for it.

ToxDoc – the US may have more doctors & medical training, they might even be smarter than any other doctor anywhere in the world…but Canada's Health Care system is the BEST!!! If I broke my arm right now, it wouldn't cost me a penny, neither would Chemo, Physio or open heart surgery…this is what people mean when they say our health care is better – it's not the actual care given by doctors, but the fact that it is FREE!
